Submission Deadline: AUGUST 7, 2025 (6:00pm)

Artist as Griot Art Show
Clark Center NYC is looking for artists for a juried exhibition. Through our lens as dancers and visual artists, this exhibition will highlight stories told through visual art, dance and other creative ideas. In African tradition, a “griot” is the person whose role it is to preserve the history, tales and oral traditions of the tribe through storytelling, poetry and music. Featuring paintings, prints, and photographs ranging from realistic to abstract art, “The Artist as Griot” will highlight the legacy or stories of Clark Center, the artist’s personal anecdotes, and/or address narratives of global events we share and how all of these examples may affect the lives and work of creators.

Work can be two or three dimensional and must be original. All work must be wired securely and ready to hang. Artwork does not have to be for sale. If work is for sale, artists will receive 80% with a commission of 20% going to Clark Center NYC.

Exhibition Dates: September 3 to September 16, 2025
Location: El Barrio’s Artspace, PS 109, 215 East 99th Street, New York, NY

Artists must have a relationship to Clark Center (e.g. student, choreographer, company member, dance photographer, musician, etc)
Artists may submit up to three images for consideration. This exhibition will be juried by selected artist and curator friends of the Clark Center community

Your Charles Moore Memories

We are reaching out to former dancers, students, colleagues, friends and associates to share your memories, stories and recollections of Charles Moore with us as we prepare the content and structure of both events. In under 500 words, please write and send your testimonials to help us compose a more complete picture of Charles' influence on the New York dance scene and beyond, with the charm and humor he was known for and brought to his work and teaching.

If you would submit your memories to us by July 22 by emailing to clarkcenternyc@gmail.com, it would be much appreciated. We hope you will be able to attend either or both events and be part of this much deserved tribute. Information on both events will be forthcoming as our planning progresses.

Thank you! Looking forward to hearing from you!
